Willie Cook, a 58-year-old Louisiana man, was arrested for domestic abuse battery after allegedly throwing his lunch and a metal spoon at his wife during a verbal argument at their Monroe home. When confronted by police, Cook offered a novel legal defense, claiming that “it was not a crime to throw food on his wife.” Police, who observed food scattered on the master bed and a “small lump” on the victim’s head caused by the spoon, rejected his claim and arrested him. Cook, who has been married to the victim for 34 years, was released two days later after posting a $500 bond on the misdemeanor charge.
